I grew up playing sports with a coach for a dad and a taste for competition. I played tennis and basketball competitively throughout middle and high school and decided to take a break upon graduation… a very long break. Eight years later I found myself really out of shape and unhappy about how I was feeling and looking. I tried to pick up tennis again but wasn’t satisfied, so I settled for distance running. After a series of aches and pains and the birth of my daughter, I met some inspirational mothers who really made me think twice about fitness, competition, community, and what my little body was capable of. If they could do pull-ups and thrusters, then surely so could I … Fast forward 1 year and I was hooked. Pull ups and thrusters, check. But here is the cool thing- you can always improve and get stronger- that’s what keeps me coming back for more. The strength I have gained permeates every aspect of my life. I walk a little taller knowing what I have accomplished and what I have yet to conquer.

I have continually chosen careers that allow me to help others. Whether through my military service, working as a counselor, paramedic, guide or teacher I’ve dedicated myself to being as strong as I could be and helping others achieve the same. CrossFit allows me to continue that pursuit well beyond just the physical aspects. CrossFit permits me to utilize all my past experiences to help people achieve their goals for personal fitness, as well as growth and development. For me it has been the key to personal empowerment. It can, if you allow it, make you stronger, physically, mentally and emotionally.

In June 2005, I was 260 lbs. and in the worst shape of my life. I made a decision to get in the best shape any member of my family has ever been in. I would go up and down and have my struggles with strength and weight loss just like everyone else. In February 2009 I attended my first CrossFit class and knew I had found something that could push me through the wall I had hit multiple times before.
I got into coaching because I sensed that this could help everyone who was willing to put in the work. I started learning the ways of coaching since September 2009 and have learned so much. I love helping people reach PRs and taking two minutes off of WOD times. This has changed my life for the better and it can change yours as well. My “CrossFit heroes” aren’t people with a 600+ lb. deadlift, a 700+ lb. back squat, or a 1:30 “Fran” time. If you show up and give 100%, YOU are my CrossFit Hero!

Though participation in both movement and sport brings me tremendous clarity and confidence, it is through the coaching of physical performance that I find the greatest pride and enjoyment. I have experience working with and coaching very diverse training populations including Top 100 ranked Regional CrossFit Athletes, breast cancer patients, and stroke patients to improve locomotion and balance. In addition to my four year CrossFit career, my education in Exercise and Sport Science has provided me with wonderful insight into proper biomechanics of sport, responsible training practices, and emergency care of injuries and illnesses. What is most important that you know now, is how genuinely excited I am to work with each and every one of you, and I promise to know all names in short time!

When I was fourteen I moved to South Florida. One day I was riding my bike around to get to know the area. I saw a Gold’s Gym and thought that would be a good way to get involved in my new community. I rode up the street and convinced the manager of the Taco Bell why he should hire me (even if I wasn’t the legal age) so I could pay for my new gym membership. I went home and told my parents what I had done that day and not to worry about me adjusting to my new home. I asked for an advance until I would receive my first paycheck because I was not about to wait to join the gym. Since that day, I have been some form of a “gym rat!”
I am convinced that whatever it is in life we want, we can have it. The phrase, “Mind over matter” has a ton of meaning for me and is why I am an endurance athlete at heart. Pushing past the limits we impose on ourselves is a thrill and I am excited to share my thoughts and experiences with the clients with which I work. I am so grateful to be involved in the CrossFit Asheville Community where we all work together to support one another in this great adventure of life.

I am grateful to have been involved in athletics of all kinds from a very young age including competitive sports.I was first introduced to CrossFit while working in the corporate world from a friend in early 2009 and it changed me from the first workout called “Fran”.
I enjoy coaching at CrossFit Asheville, Stay Active Clinic and constantly challenging myself and clients to become better athletes at and outside the gym.

Having practiced in Cardiovascular Intensive Care for more than 25 years I promoted a “healthy” lifestyle for my patients, though one focused around medications and surgical interventions for what are greatly preventable processes. After joining CFA in 2009 I found a passion for health promotion through movement/strength development, local/whole foods, and a commitment to lifestyle changes. A sedentary lifetime of poor habits, minimal / sporadic exercise, and one super-intense sugar addiction is merely a memory. Taking control of my life, I am now more fit and feel healthier both physically and mentally than I have since in my 20s. This CrossFit community opened my eyes to a whole new world that I want to share with others who desire health and need knowledge and support to take personal control for their well-being.

I have been a member at CrossFit Asheville since September, 2009 and have a running and cycling background. I love endurance sports and like to stay on the go. I enjoy coaching CrossFit and seeing the joy spreads across an athlete’s face when they hit a PR or master a movement. My goal in coaching is to inspire and help athletes meet their own goals. Yoga helps me to slow down, clear my mind and increase my range of motion. Classes are tailored to compliment CrossFit activities and help our community improve mobility and flexibility. I lead a dynamic flow class. All levels (including beginners and first timers) are welcome! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Growing up as a bookworm in the jungles of Hawaii, I never imagined that a physical discipline would have such a profound impact on my life. After discovering Marial Arts in college, I found my way to yoga in the late 1990s in order to balance my body from the intensity of martial arts training. When the time constraints of motherhood required that I choose one or the other, yoga won out as my passion. I’ve been in love with helping others discover the benefits of yoga since 2005. My classes include both mental & physical aspects of yoga in a welcoming and lighthearted atmosphere with a focus on deep breathing, therapeutic (safe) alignment, and fun. In addition to yoga, I love moving & challenging my body through hiking, dancing, aerial arts, and CrossFit.

Becca is inspired to come to work everyday to help facilitate people pushing through barriers
whether they are physical, mental or emotional so that they can reach their full potential. She
believes and personally understands how fitness can be a vehicle to personal growth and a truly
lifechanging and empowering endeavor.
Prior to coaching, Becca was a full time Outdoor Educator for 11 years working with the NC
Outward Bound School instructing backpacking, rock climbing, and whitewater canoeing. She
holds certifications with American Mountain Guides Association, American Canoe Association,
Leave No Trace and Wilderness Medical Institute. Having been an athlete since childhood,
Becca dedicated herself to rock climbing and alpine climbing has climbed extensively in the
United States and around the world before being introduced to CrossFit and Strength Training.
Becca now mainly trains and competes in Olympic Weightlifting and still loves to jump into
CrossFit competitions from time to time. In addition to her fitness training, she enjoys the
outdoors and can be found out locally hiking, mountain biking, climbing and paddling with her
partner and dog.
